Goddard tree rules worth knowing

Stump removal is mandatory — on private property too. Section 13-407 is unusually broad: whoever removes a tree, on public or private property, must remove the stump to below the adjacent ground level. Plenty of quotes leave stump grinding as an optional extra. In Goddard it isn't optional.

Hard numbers on planting. No tree may be planted within 3 feet of any curb or sidewalk, or within 10 feet of a fire hydrant.

Two different clearance heights. Goddard requires a minimum of 8 feet over sidewalks and 13 feet 6 inches over streets — higher than most neighbouring cities.

Dead trees: 30 days, then the tax bill. If the city determines a tree is a hazard or is harbouring insects or disease, you get written notice and 30 days to treat or remove it, or petition the council for a variance. After that the city can do the work and assess the cost against your property taxes.
